How to write your own CV

CV Writing Tips - Layout

Please do bear in mind that the following is simply a check list for your CV. In our experience, people that write their own Curriculum Vitae often fail to impress. If your CV is badly written, or has problems like poor layout, spelling, grammar or other mistakes, it will not get a second glance.
  • Full name and address, including mobile, and email.
  • Personal profile – including experience gained and type of role desired.
  • Key skills – most relevant to job applied for first.
  • Put job history in chronological order (including dates), starting with most recent first, followed by job description.
  • If there are several short-term temporary jobs to be added, no need to add great detail unless there is limited career history and you need to bulk out the CV.
  • Education and qualifications – where and when. Only secondary education necessary (unless recently left school).
  • Any other training (including in-house) and/or awards gained (inc grades), starting with the best.
  • Hobbies, clubs etc. Only add more detail if relevant to job applied for.
  • Do you hold a clean driving licence?
  • Willing to travel abroad?
  • Marital status.
